The stock photo and quote seemed fitting. So much in fact, that I decided to leave them. When I was a small child, I wanted to be a writer and that dream never faded, though it was lost for a time. This year, my goal is to finish the novel I am currently writing (working title: Nothing Gold Can Stay), and have a publishable draft by the end of the year.
Completing a novel is a daunting task, especially for an author such as myself, as I can become highly…SQUIRREL!… distracted. I tend to write about 3/4 of a novel before I become stuck and take a break for, well, forever. My library of authored works includes close to 10 unfinished novels. In fact, I frequently think of just publishing them as is and when the plot comes to an abrupt halt, the word “FIN”.
While a collection of unfinished novels sounds like a great idea (at least in my writer’s blocked mind), I am going to push through and complete this novel to a real ending. I am going to finish, find a way to get the sucker published and feel it between my fingers. Putting intentions into the universe helps one to achieve greatness, and therefore I am officially announcing my first published novel, “Nothing Gold Can Stay” by Laurel E. Cole, coming to a bookseller near you in 2020.
Good company in a journey makes the way seem shorter. — Izaak Walton
