I am a master novelist, or rather master novel starter. Why don’t I just finish them? That is an excellent question. I always hit a road block about 3/4 of the way through and never seem to be able to get the ending down on paper.
Take a break and come back to it. That’s the advice I get, and while it sounds good in theory, the more time I take away from a novel the less attached to it I become. Then, I start revising and editing instead of drafting out a conclusion to the story. So, it becomes a never ending story.
Oddly, when enough time passes, I can be drawn back into the writing process but it becomes overwhelming to get the ball rolling again. My goal for 2019 is to complete a novel and have it ready to submit for publication. It’s already August, so that leaves me 4 more months to complete a full novel and edit for submission.
Let’s start the clock counting because I am going to meet my goal this year. Good thing I’m already 3/4 of the way there! Now, to find some endings!
