People keep saying that they wish 2020 would hurry up and end, as if by some force of magic, a new year will bring better tidings. While this year has been filled with fear and pain, the idea that all will be set right in the world when the clock strikes 12 on December 31st, makes me cringe.
Every day that the sun rises is a new opportunity to start fresh, to change our perspective, to make the world and ourselves better. So, why do we put it off until an arbitrary date on the calendar? Right now, the world is filled with negativity, and it is up to each of us to change the tide.
Instead of creating resolutions that will be forgotten or left undone, start making small changes towards creating the life you want to live now. Be kind to yourself and to others around you. Remember what is truly important and what makes you feel that child like sense of joy.
For Thanksgiving, our plans were derailed due to an uptick in COVID cases. We opted to take a road trip instead of gathering with friends and family outside of our household. Instead, we packed up the truck and hit the road. This spontaneous trip reminded me how much I enjoy exploring new places and what it is like to be happy again.
I remembered that how I view the world is a choice I make each morning when I wake up and no matter what is going on in the world, I can find that peace and happiness if I keep on remembering. There is so much beauty surrounding the ugliness, if we only stop to see it. We may not know what is in store for us in 2021, but we can start making a positive change today.
There is light on the other side of the tunnel.
